Through course selection in the mathematics master's program, a student can specialize in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics. A completed degree can serve as background for a Ph.D. or a final degree for mathematics. To obtain the master’s, students must complete 30 credit hours of graduate courses, with a minimum of 18 at the 400 level. Students must also pass a comprehensive exam in their first year of the master’s program, covering calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics.
