Marty Baron ’76 ’76G ’14H is a journalist and former editor in chief of The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and The Miami Herald and a former senior editor at The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. The newsrooms he led received 18 Pulitzer Prizes: one at The Herald, six at The Globe and 11 at The Post.
While serving as executive editor of The Herald, the staff won a Pulitzer Prize for covering the return of a Cuban boy at the center of an international custody dispute.
During his time at The Globe, Baron headed the newsroom as reporters investigated the Catholic Church’s sexual abuse scandal. The investigation earned the paper a 2003 Pulitzer Prize in public service and was portrayed in the Academy Award-winning movie “Spotlight.”
Under Baron’s leadership as executive editor, The Post won Pulitzer Prizes for explanatory reporting, public service and more on a variety of topics including climate change and secret surveillance.
He retired from The Post in 2021 after a career in journalism spanning 45 years and last year published a book entitled “Collision of Power: Trump, Bezos, and The Washington Post.”
Baron served as editor in chief of Lehigh’s student-run newspaper, The Brown and White, during his time at Lehigh.
