The Lehigh Commitment

The Lehigh Commitment provides a full tuition grant to undergraduate students from families with a total income of less than $75,000, making a Lehigh education accessible to talented students who will strengthen our campus community.

The Lehigh Commitment is a pledge to make a transformative Lehigh education even more accessible. Beginning in fall of 2024, Lehigh will provide a full tuition grant, scholarship or other tuition waiver (the family will pay no tuition) for undergraduate students from families with a total income of less than $75,000 (with typical assets), reinforcing our dedication to enrolling talented students regardless of family income. Lehigh is fully committed to supporting all students throughout their college career to ensure excellence in student outcomes.

The Lehigh Commitment comprises the following:

Full Tuition Grant

Students with a family income of less than $75,000 (with typical assets) who complete their financial aid application by the deadlines will be provided with a grant, scholarship or other tuition waiver equivalent to, or greater than, the cost of full tuition.

Career Preparation

The Center for Career and Professional Development provides support for students with career education and professional development, and provides opportunities for students to connect with employers and alumni through mentorship, internships and interviews.

FAQs

Undergraduate students from families with a family income of less than $75,000 (with typical assets) are eligible.

No, only undergraduate students are eligible for the Lehigh Commitment.

International students may be eligible for the Lehigh Commitment. In addition to family income and typical assets we will also consider currency conversions, local costs of living and the amount that the student declares they are able to pay on the Certificate of Finances to make the final determination on Lehigh Commitment eligibility.

All current and incoming students are eligible for the Lehigh Commitment.

Students need to make satisfactory academic progress, the same as for any financial aid provided by Lehigh.

In this case, typical assets refer to less than $500,000 in total family assets, and/or $10,000 in student assets.

Yes, students must re-apply for need-based financial aid annually and submit the application by the deadlines. As long as the family income remains less than $75,000 (and typical assets), and the student meets satisfactory academic progress standards and maintains full-time enrollment, the Lehigh Commitment grant will be awarded for up to a total of four years of undergraduate studies for new, first-year students. Current Lehigh students are eligible beginning in the Fall 2024 term through the eighth semester of their undergraduate attendance. Students who transfer into Lehigh from other institutions will have the length of their renewal eligibility individually determined by the number of credits that transfer with them and the typical time remaining to earn their undergraduate degree.

Admitted students from the United States with a family income of less than $75,000 (and typical assets) who submit their financial aid application by the deadlines will automatically be offered the Lehigh Commitment grant. For international students, we will also consider currency conversions, local costs of living and the amount that the student declares they are able to pay on the Certificate of Finances to make the final determination on Lehigh Commitment eligibility.

We do our best to accommodate all student requests but resources are program-dependent.

No, the full tuition Lehigh Commitment grant only applies to enrollment during the traditional fall and spring academic-year terms.

Yes, the 5-year Arts and Engineering program is the only exception to the four-year, or eighth semester of attendance limits noted above.

No, the Lehigh commitment grant is available only beginning the fall of 2024 and does not apply to terms prior to that. Current Lehigh students are eligible beginning in the Fall 2024 term through the eighth semester of their undergraduate attendance.

Lehigh Commitment students who are also receiving a merit scholarship will receive a Lehigh Commitment grant equal to the difference between their merit and tuition (with the total equaling full tuition).

External scholarships may reduce the amount of Lehigh grant by the amount of the external award, but for students who qualify for the Lehigh Commitment the total combination of Lehigh grant/scholarship and external scholarship will still equal or exceed the cost of tuition.
