Remembering the Rifle Club

I was very pleased to read the letter from Win Applegate ’57 that appeared in the Spring 2019 Lehigh Bulletin suggesting that you publish an article on the history of the rifle team before it is lost in history.

I was a member of the Rifle Team for the four years I was at Lehigh and was captain for my senior year. I totally concur with Win Applegate that the team received very little publicity, even though we did extremely well.

In my junior year I won the Pennsylvania state collegiate individual championship and the team had an outstanding record. Suggest you look at Epitome 1968, Rifle Team page under sports.

I join Win Applegate in suggesting that an article on the team would be very interesting. One other point that should be covered is the outstanding level of support that we received from the Lehigh Army ROTC group.

I am still in touch with members of the team and many of us still enjoy the shooting competition.

Kudos for ‘Sunrise on the Southside’

I want to thank you for the outstanding article on the South Side. I am Lehigh ’66, and in my days one was cautious about straying into the South Side, except the mandatory visits to “the Ho,” the Tally Ho bar/restaurant. I see in one of the pictures today’s Tally Ho façade, much nicer than I remembered. Your article was a wonderful read; thank you.
