The word “alumni” is back in its name. The fonts in the print edition and flipbook are new and bigger in size. “From the Nest” delivers news from the Lehigh campus and community, including faculty and student research, initiatives, culture, athletics and campus changes.
Data-driven, the redesign of the Lehigh Alumni Bulletin by the editorial and design teams in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs aims to deliver a magazine that accurately reflects Lehigh–a dynamic, national research university where innovation, collaboration and interdisciplinary endeavors are hallmarks. It also aims to make the magazine more engaging and interesting to all of Lehigh’s alumni, no matter when they graduated.
The Bulletin was first published nearly 120 years ago. Since then, it has grown in distribution size and page count—and enjoyed numerous redesigns. But the magazine has continued steadfast in its mission to provide alumni with updates about the university, its students, faculty and fellow alumni.
Interspersed in the Spring 2023 redesigned issue are new features and interactive content. “Bookshelf” highlights alumni and faculty authors; “Ask the Expert” showcases an alum’s expertise; and “Squawk” captures alumni’s social media comments. The magazine also puts a spotlight on the university’s podcasts, as well as its faculty who are in the national media.
In step with the redesign, the Spring 2023 issue also features several innovative alumni: architect Jared Della Valle ’93, who develops sustainable buildings with a reduced carbon footprint; Alex Weldon ’14 Ph.D., who helps develop rockets and engines for private space travel; and Annie Wu Henry ’18, who uses her communication skills for broader messaging.
