What are your research interests?

I study the uses of archaeological heritage, community-based heritage preservation practices, and how heritage becomes political. I do my research in Mexico in a town called Tihosuco that was the epicenter of a Maya rebellion in the 1840s.

What classes are you teaching at Lehigh?

Intro to Archaeology, Anthropology of Tourism, Mesoamerican Archaeology

What degrees do you hold and where did you earn them?

Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Bachelor of Arts in Spanish (Cornell University); Master of Science in Historic Preservation (University of Pennsylvania); Ph.D. (University of Pennsylvania)

What was your previous institution?

N/A

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

Getting to know and connect with my students, and hopefully teaching them that culture is everywhere, and will be a part of their lives and careers even if it is not apparent right now. It is everywhere and colors everything we do. And, teaching archaeology is also great because most people have never formally studied it, but find it inherently interesting!

Why did you choose Lehigh?

I was a visiting professor last year and had such a wonderful experience with the department and the students. People are eager to learn and connect, and see value in taking classes and understanding culture from different perspectives, even if that will not be their eventual career.
