With the spring 2021 semester beginning on Feb. 1, many of Lehigh’s colleges and offices are taking advantage of the longer winter break to put together special programming for students.
The new winter programming includes opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students such as Lehigh courses for credit, internships and projects, seminars and workshops, virtual study abroad and international experiences and programs from the Graduate Life Office. They are not exclusively focused on international experiences, although many are.
Offerings include unique professional experiences liked international internships, remote micro-internships, and Startup Winternships; new ways to connect like the Friends and Family Quarantine Book Club; opportunities for personal or professional growth like the Sustainable Happiness Institute; skill-building workshops like the Gilman Scholarship Boot Camp and Strategic Career Management Seminar; and new courses like “Global Citizenship, Art and Social Change” and “Intercultural Communication.”
“We wanted to present students with winter term credit and non-credit programs that will help them reconnect with peers, faculty and staff – and hopefully those experiences that were reasons they chose Lehigh in the first place,” says Cheryl Matherly, vice president and vice provost for international affairs.
This initiative began with OIA, when staff brainstormed new ideas for international programs to offer in January, after many of the usual travel programs were suspended as a result of COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Other offices were invited to include new or on-going winter programs on a site curated by OIA in collaboration with Registration and Academic Services.
The following offices are offering winter programs:
- Center for Career and Professional Development
- College of Health
- Global Citizenship Program
- International Center for Academic and Professional English (ICAPE)
- Office of Creative Inquiry
- Office of Fellowship Advising
- Office of Graduate Life
- Study Abroad
- UN Programs
