NPR featured comments from George A. Nation III, professor of law and business, in the article "Hospitals Forced To Be More Transparent About Pricing. Will That Save You Money?"

The new hospital price transparency rule requires hospitals to share the actual prices they negotiate with insurers and the discounts they offer their cash-paying customers, explains NPR.

"It's very good news for consumers," said Nation. "Individuals will be able to get price information, although how much they are going to use it will remain to be seen."

Nation discusses the impact this rule will have on the unemployed and the uninsured, noting that for them, the negotiated rates and cash discount information will prove more useful.

"If I have a $10,000 deductible plan and it's December and I'm not close to meeting that, I may go to a hospital and try to get the cash price," he said.
