9.7.23: Fall 2023 COVID Update from Lehigh HR

A message sent to Lehigh faculty and staff.

As we begin the fall semester, we are aware of the recent rise in COVID cases nationally and continue to monitor local data.

The Health & Wellness Center is managing student cases, which are currently trending upward. Faculty members who have students absent from class due to COVID should follow the same procedure as they do with students absent for any illness.

So far, we have not seen a significant change in staff and faculty cases. However, we want to encourage you to monitor and protect your own health. Here are some actions you can take:

  • First and foremost, if you are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID or have tested positive, do not come to your campus workplace. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you can use sick leave or make temporary remote work arrangements with your supervisor, if feasible.

  • If you have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID, please wear a mask and follow these instructions.

  • If it has been a while since you have received a COVID booster shot, consider scheduling one in the near future. An updated booster is anticipated to become available nationwide in one to two weeks. This new booster will offer protection from current and newer variants, including those that are expected to be more prevalent in fall and winter. Vaccines can be obtained using your ExpressScripts card at participating pharmacies (no copay) or at your primary care provider using your medical insurance card (copay may apply).

  • While masks are currently optional, anyone who wishes to mask should feel comfortable doing so anywhere on campus. Offices may obtain a free supply of KN95 masks at this link.

Sincerely,

Chris Halladay
Associate Vice President for Human Resources
