Cathy Engelbert ’86 ’23P

Cathy Engelbert ’86 is the first commissioner of the WNBA, the nation’s top professional women’s basketball league. Named to the league’s premier position in May 2019, she is responsible for the league’s direction, day-to-day business and basketball operations.

Engelbert, a senior captain when she played on Lehigh’s basketball and lacrosse teams, is a certified public accountant licensed in three states. She joins the WNBA from Deloitte, where she rose through the ranks to become CEO—the first woman ever to lead a Big Four professional services firm in the United States.

At Deloitte, she moved the firm toward emerging technologies while revenues grew more than 30%. She also focused on employee well-being, implementing programs such as a 16-week family leave policy. For the past four years, she was listed as one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women.

Engelbert earned an accounting degree from Lehigh, where she delivered the 2018 commencement address. She also delivered the 2019 Donald M. Gruhn ’49 Distinguished Finance lecture in October.

Sam Bencheghib ’19 has embarked on a five-month, 3,000-mile run across America on recycled shoes to raise awareness about plastic pollution. The journey is part of his current project for Make a Change World, a platform for environmental change he created with his brother.

Evan K. Mair ’19 MBA

Captain Evan K. Mair ’19 MBA, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has been approved by Congress for a promotion in rank to Major in 2020. In May, Mair completed Lehigh’s 1-MBA program while on active duty. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in aeronautics from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Dr. Amy Belisle ’18 MBA

Dr. Amy Belisle ’18 MBA was hired by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services as the state’s new chief pediatrician. Belisle, an Air Force veteran, earned her MBA from Lehigh, attended both Harvard University and the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
