August 2023 - Status Update for Clayton UC Construction

What's coming up in the construction process this fall?

Those on campus will continue to notice a fence around the perimeter of the Clayton UC, as there was last academic year. Vresics Walk and Library Drive will remain closed until later in the fall semester and Trembley will remain open to pedestrians only as the renovation work continues.

Inside-

Vision:

  • Reimagined spaces for dining, studying, socializing and meeting
  • A large campus “living room” where students will relax, eat or collaborate on projects
  • Eateries offering an array of options
  • Lounge areas and club space for student organizations
  • Improved mechanical and life safety systems
  • A new open stair between the second and third floors to better connect the floors.

Current progress:

-Interior demolition is complete

-Interior concrete infill and structural steel support work is ongoing

-Carpentry and framing work is ongoing

-Rough-in of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems begins, starting in the lower level and moving to the fourth floor and subsequently working down the building

Outside-

Vision:

  • A large fire-pit
  • Masonry cleaned and repointed
  • New walkways, lighting and landscaping
  • Entryways opened up, allowing more natural light
  • Enhanced accessibility
  • The building’s postcard view and stone facade facing the north lawn will be preserved.

Current progress:

-New site utility work is progressing and will wrap up in late Fall 2023

-Site concrete (new retaining walls & stairs) will wrap up in late Fall 2023

-Masonry repointing and balcony wall reconstruction work is ongoing and should wrap up in late Fall 2023

-Replacement of all slate and selected copper roofs, gutters and downspouts is ongoing
