Growing up outside of Philadelphia, Evan Stein ’93 realized his passion for his hometown’s iconic foods could thrive as a business in New York City. He has opened three Olde City Cheesesteaks & Brew locations there since 2020, serving up classic cheesesteak and roast pork specials.

“I’m in love with the restaurant business,” says Stein, recognizing that the grind of the industry is not for everyone. He says he feels at home at Olde City, serving up Philly food and surrounded by “rabid Eagles fans” on Sundays.

The venture is Stein’s latest business endeavor, having previously operated Shorty’s restaurant locations in New York. His latest success, he says, is rooted in his passion for the brand. While he has spent money on marketing, he has gone door to door to give out free drink cards and menus to doormen in the neighborhood. “I’m the brand’s biggest ambassador,” he says.
