The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for all of us, requiring us to adapt. We want to update you regarding the impact of the pandemic on the second-year housing process. As you may be aware, new building construction was stopped in Pennsylvania until at least April 30 per Governor Wolf’s March 19th order, postponing the work that was in progress on our new residential complex, which includes the Singleton, Hitch, and Maida Houses.
This has caused us to begin preparing for three possible scenarios:
- The new complex will be fully completed by August, ready for fall 2020 move-in.
- It will be partially completed. One or two of the buildings will be completed by August, ready for fall 2020 move-in.
- It will not be completed until at least January of 2021. No buildings will be ready for fall 2020 move-in.
We are working on several contingency plans to be ready for each scenario. These include using Trembley Park for another year, utilizing all available spaces, and potentially using open space in SouthSide Commons, if needed.
In order to have the most current information regarding the status of the construction of the new complex, we are delaying the start of the second-year housing selection process until at least May 15, after final exams. We are sharing this timeframe now, recognizing you may be accustomed to the process occurring sooner. This additional time provides us the best opportunity to assess progress and to conduct a complete and accurate housing selection process.
Further information will be forthcoming regarding important dates and deadlines. Please be sure to check your email for additional updates. This process is conducted online, so the selection can be completed from wherever you are located.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented circumstances.
