Boz Scaggs will kick off the 2008-09 season on Sept. 6. |
The first course of the center’s 12th season features Boz Scaggs on Sept 6. The artist known for blending rock, jazz and blues into his own style will revisit old classics “Lido Shuffle, “Lowdown” and “We’re All Alone” from his Silk Degrees album.
One week later, another Grammy-Award winner, David Byrne, will raise audience’s hair and heart rates. Byrne co-founded the iconic rock band Talking Heads, whose progressive blending of i Stars and songs from Broadway pepper the season’s lineup. First, Joel Grey and Marvin Hamlisch will perform the songs that made them legendary at the Gala2008. Later, two musical comedies, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Zoellner will also host the premiere of an award-winning one-act opera written by Paul Salerni, Lehigh professor of music. Last year, the National Opera Association bestowed first place in a competition on Salerni’s Tony Caruso’s Last Broadcast, a woeful tale of an eccentric radio personality.
Over 100 other performances will include star Lehigh University’s music department and department of theatre, as well as exhibits in the art galleries.
For a different flavor, audiences may attend one of Zoellner’s EdgeEvents—a series of unorthodox performers including Andrew Bird, Cloud Cult and a radio theater program by L.A. Theatre Works.
