Wynton Marsalis to perform at Gala2004
Wynton Marsalis and the extraordinarily versatile Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO) will gift ticket holders with an extensive repertoire at Baker Hall as Zoellner Arts Center presents Gala2004 at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2.
The LCJO replaces the original Gala2004 performers, Dance Theatre of Harlem, who informed Zoellner that they would not be able to fulfill their engagement due to financial difficulties which have forced the company to put their artists on hiatus for the remainder of the 2004-2005 fiscal year.
All previously purchased Gala2004 tickets will be honored for the LCJO with Wynton Marsalis performance.
Comprised of 15 of jazz music’s leading soloists, the LCJO will present “Out Here to Swing,” their highly successful international tour featuring original compositions by Wynton Marsalis, Ted Nash, Ron Westray, and other members of the orchestra, as well as the masterworks of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, and other acclaimed jazz performers.
“One rarely hears this music played with such technical brilliance, stylistic authenticity and tonal sheen … Here were the throaty reeds, percussive trumpet blasts and visceral sense of swing that have made the LCJO the greatest jazz ensemble working today,” hails the Chicago Tribune.
And the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel says, “Jazz is a serious, thoughtful music, but it’s a lot of fun, too—and that’s the message Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra are carrying out to the world.”
Tickets for the LCJO concert with a post-show dessert reception are available for $70-$100 for adults ($30 charitable) and $35 for children and all students with I.D. Benefit tickets for the complete gala evening with pre-performance cocktails and an elegant dinner, preferred concert seating, and dessert reception are available for $375 ($250 charitable).
