A week in the material world

A select group of area high school students spent last week at Lehigh learning about materials science and engineering during the 11th annual ASM Materials Camp.

The students learned about the behavior and properties of a variety of materials—glass, ceramics, metals and polymers—and the applications for which they are used, including 3D printing.

The camp is sponsored by Lehigh and the Lehigh Valley chapter of the ASM International, a professional society for materials scientists. It is organized and taught by graduate students in the department of materials science and engineering.

A similar ASM camp for high school science teachers was held at Lehigh this week.
