Vinci is repeat winner of MS&Es Doan award

Richard Vinci, associate professor of materials science and engineering, has received the Gilbert E. Doan Award, which is presented each year by seniors in the department to the person who has best served them as a mentor, in the technical, professional, civic, moral and spiritual dimensions of their education.
In a letter of congratulations to Vinci, Jeff Farren '04 wrote, the senior class has chosen you to receive the Doan Award in a landslide vote. You are an outstanding person and an outstanding professor and we are lucky to have you here at Lehigh.
The endowment for the award was established by the family of Gilbert E. Doan, who earned a degree in metallurgical engineering in 1919 and served as chair of the department from 1939 to 1952. Doan started the department's professional development class, which is now called Mat 101.
Vinci also received the Doan Award in 2001 and 2003.
