Tierney is league's top scholar

Awards and accolades continue to pour in for Lehigh junior Anne Tierney. For the second straight season, the forward has been named the Patriot League’s Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Tierney has excelled both in the classroom and on the basketball court in her nearly three years at Lehigh. The double major in Economics and Finance currently boasts a 3.87 GPA, and has been a Dean’s List student every semester at Lehigh. Tierney earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Fall 2001 semester. Last month, she was selected to the Verizon Academic All-America Women’s Basketball District 2 team for the second consecutive season.
On the court, Tierney has already shattered several school records, with one season still remaining in her career. The co-captain is Lehigh’s all-time leader in rebounds (876 through three seasons), and is rapidly climbing the Mountain Hawks’ all-time scoring list, where she is currently third (1,464 career points). Tierney has been an All-Patriot League First Team selection in each of her first three seasons, and was the league’s Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Anne is such a hard worker and consistently gives her all both in the classroom and on the basketball court, said Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan. She is an outstanding representative of all student-athletes in our league, excelling at the highest level in everything she does.
Tierney has an opportunity to add to her lofty totals in her senior campaign. She needs only 236 points to become the Mountain Hawks’ all-time leading scorer, and she will also look to become the first player in Patriot League basketball history to be named to the league’s First Team four times.
