Summer Autism Institute draws leading experts to Lehigh

A range of topics were covered that are pertinent for educators, social workers, behavior specialists, parents, and others who work with individuals with autism.
Lee Kern, Class of 1961 Associate Professor in the special education program, was program director of the Summer Institute on Autism. Kern has published and lectured extensively in the areas of functional behavioral assessment, support plan development, challenging behaviors, curricular interventions, and self-management.
She is currently associate editor of Education and Treatment of Children, Journal of Behavioral Education, and Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions and serves on the advisory board for five other journals in special education and school psychology.
Experts from Vanderbilt University, Penn State University and the University of South Florida presented topics including early intervention, working with high-functioning students with autism and Asperger syndrome, self-determination, developing comprehensive programs for students with autism, and academic programming, including fluency training.
