Student Affairs announces new hires, promotions

The last few months of the academic year saw a number of long-time Student Affairs staffers move on to new roles at other institutions.

The transition, said John Smeaton, vice provost for Student Affairs, has provided an opportunity to make some well-deserved promotions and to welcome talented new faces to the division.

“The departures of such experienced colleagues presented a significant challenge,” Smeaton said. “In the end, however, we were able to promote several excellent individuals from within our ranks and recruit outstanding professionals who will be great additions to our team.”

The new and newly promoted staff members include:

•    Zachary Brown, a recent graduate of Louisiana State University—where he earned his master’s in higher education administration and student affairs—is assistant director of Greek Leadership Development. Brown took on the duties of Stefanie Burke, who transitioned into a new role as director of the Office of the First-Year Experience.

•    Kate Colyer, a former complex coordinator at the University of Delaware, was named to the newly created position of assistant director of the Community Service office.

•    Chelsea Fullerton, former program coordinator in the Office of Diversity Affairs at the New York University School of Medicine, will serve as the new director of Lehigh’s Pride Center.

•    Barbara Ryan Hausman, former access coordinator at Princeton University, was named director of Learning Disability Support Services.

•    Christina Jordan, a former Peer Career ambassador at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, was named assistant director of Student Leadership Development.

•    Anna Patterson ’13, former women’s lacrosse team captain and graduate of Lehigh’s Athletics Leadership Academy, joined the Office of Student Leadership Development as assistant director of Athletics Leadership Development. That area will be led by Julie Ammary ’07, who was named director of Athletics Leadership.

•    Katie Robinson, former assistant director of the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Advising Center at the University of Scranton, was named the new director of the Center for Academic Success.

The Office of Residence Life also welcomed Ashley Lemmons as assistant dean and director of Residence Life. Lemmons most recently served as assistant director of Residence Life at the University of South Carolina and brings with her more than a decade of professional student affairs experience.

She joins Amanda (Gilmore) Slichter, assistant director in the office, and Courtney Stephens, who recently began her new role as associate director of Residence Life. Slichter is a recent graduate of Salisbury University in Maryland, where she earned an M.A. in conflict analysis and dispute resolution. Stephens came to Lehigh from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., where she served as assistant director for Residence Life.

In addition, Laurie Gray Evans ’05 Ph.D., who has worked as a staff psychologist in Lehigh’s Office of Counseling and Psychological Services and as a part-time liaison with the Dean of Students Office, will now be the full-time director of student support and case management services.

Smeaton noted that one key position that will not be filled with an external candidate at this time is that of director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs.

“We saw some very impressive candidates, but feel very confident in Ashley Baudouin, who worked in that office as assistant director for several years and was recently promoted to associate director. She has a deep understanding of the issues and our constituencies, and will allow OFSA to continue the good work they’ve been doing,” Smeaton said.

Baudouin will serve as interim director during this transitional period.
