SouthSide Commons Takes Shape

Members of the Lehigh community got an up close look Tuesday of the progress being made on SouthSide Commons, the new five-story student living facility rising at Brodhead and Packer avenues.

The apartment-style residence hall, which will house 400-plus students, is a key component of Lehigh’s plans to significantly expand its student enrollment as part of its Path to Prominence initiative.

Officials from the Memphis-based EdR Collegiate Housing, which is building the facility, led a tour of the construction site, pointing out the areas that will serve as courtyards, common space and the two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments and studio apartments. The building provides expansive views of South Bethlehem.

SouthSide Commons also will include a fitness center, study rooms and outdoor recreation area. Lehigh hopes to formally open the facility for the 2019-2020 academic year.
