Authority on Tallest Buildings Dies at Age 85
Lynn S. Beedle, 85, University Professor of civil engineering at Lehigh University who co-founded the official arbiter of disputes over the world's tallest skyscrapers, died Thursday in his Hellertown home. Beedle was probably the most internationally renowned professor we had at Lehigh, said Kurt Pfitzer, communications manager for Lehigh's P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. He would do anything he could to get people interested in tall buildings.

Lehigh University Recognized for Obtaining $1.38 Million from National Science Foundation
Pennsylvania Secretary of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Yablonsky today announced that Lehigh University will partner with the state-funded Life Science Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania (LSGPA) on a federally funded program to develop a regional biotechnology research infrastructure and workforce.
The partnership will be supported by a $1.38 million federal National Science Foundation grant that was awarded to help give the University's year- old bioengineering program a technical entrepreneurial focus.

Groundbreaking Held for SU's Performing Arts Center
Zoellner Arts Center was mentioned in an article on the groundbreaking for Shippensburg University's new performing arts center. As former mayor of Bethlehem, Donald Cunningham took office in 1997 — the opening year of his area’s Zoellner Performing Arts Center at Lehigh University….The 105,000-square-foot Zoellner Center became a hub for 'first-rate performances.' While Bethlehem is more urban than Shippensburg, the arts center there allowed for an expansion in the retail district on the south side of town, the article said.
