Arlington County government, like most government bodies, has slipped away from serving the citizen and moved toward self-perpetuation, he said. In response to this natural tendency, we need to renew our focus by treating the citizen as our customer.

Sam Weaver, associate professor of finance and law at Lehigh, was quoted in an article on the revival of mergers, megamergers and empire-building corporate weddings on Wall Street. In such consolidated industries, competitors watch every move by their competition, said Weaver, who worked for Hershey Foods for 20 years. If there was a promotion or a price cut, there was intense scrutiny and one would immediately follow the other, he said.

Great Expectations
Sally White, dean and professor in the college of education at Lehigh and sports psychologist, was interviewed by the associated press last week on the pressure LeBron James faces as he makes the jump from high school to NBA. The article was picked up by yet another newspaper today. White said no one with the amount of pressure James is facing can expect to remain composed at all times. It's essential that the Cavaliers put a support system in place to help James, she said.

McGeoy, Pugh Chosen
Two more Lehigh players have been selected to participate in the first-ever I-AA College Football All-Star Classic, Dec. 30 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Senior linebacker Tom McGeoy and running back Jermaine Pugh will join defensive end Mike Gregorek in the game, which will be televised by The Football Network. Eight players from the Patriot League have been selected to participate in the event — including the three Mountain Hawks. Tom and Jermaine have both been very dedicated and very passionate contributors to our program over their four year careers, said Lehigh head coach Pete Lembo.

Rare Cuban Prints
Two years ago Ricardo Viera, the Cuban-born director/curator of the Lehigh University Galleries, traveled to Paris to visit Guido Llinas, an influential Cuban printmaker influenced by Wifredo Lam, an even more influential Cuban printmaker. The conversation resulted in Llinas donating to Lehigh 53 prints, including 41 woodcuts and two artist books. Lehigh is currently displaying some of these works in Dubois Gallery in Maginnes Hall, which aggressively mix Abstract Expressionism with the signs of Abakua, a secret men's society in Cuba that practices the customs of a leopard-worshipping tribe in current-day Nigeria.

Ready or Not, Towson is on its Way to the A-10
Paul Reinhard discussed Towson's move away from the Patriot League, which will affect Lehigh. If you take emotion out of it and look at it objectively, Towson is going into a conference where they will play more peer schools…large, state-funded institutions with similar enrollments and academics, said Lehigh coach Pete Lembo. As much as I hate to see them leave, I think in the long run, it will be beneficial for them.
