Racing Legend Roger Penske Steers Super Bowl Drive
Roger S. Penske, former racecar driver who amassed an $11 billion transportation empire and who graduated from Lehigh in 1959 with a degree in industrial management, has always had a knack for fixing things. Penske now employs 35,000 people and controls 200 car dealerships, record-setting racing teams and a successful truck leasing company.

An Ideal School
For ten years Paul Chou, associate professor of music and director of the Lehigh University Philharmonic Orchestra, has been keeping his musicians busy in rehearsals by rotating their positions, having them critique themselves, and teaching them stories of his days as a Wall Street systems analyst. I don't think I'm necessarily teaching music, says Chou, a 43-year-old native of Skaneateles, New York. I think I'm teaching life skills. I'm teaching how music can improve your discipline, your imagination, your expression. It's all about growing your mind.

Women's 5K Attracts More than Runners
There's nothing like trading in goggles and a swimsuit for a race number and a pair of running shoes. At least that's what members of the Lehigh University women's swim team decided on Saturday when they ran in the Women's 5K Classic. The race is held in the Lehigh Parkway each year and raises funds to fight breast cancer. I loved it, said Dana Berkowitz, one of the team's participants. It's a great cause and I got to run for my mom (who is a breast cancer survivor).

New Bethany Ministries Readies for Stellar Luncheon
The New Bethany Ministries annual Soup and Salad Luncheon will be the place to network at noon on Tuesday, October 21 at the Candlelight Inn in Easton. Ken Smith, chairman of the luncheon, former Bethlehem mayor and assistant to the president of Lehigh University, community and governmental affairs, will serve as master of the ceremonies.

Chamber Orchestra
Violinist Joshua Bell returned to the Zoellner Arts Center last Saturday, this time joining the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra under Donald Spieth for Max Bruch's Concerto No. 1 in G Minor for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 26, which is one of the mainstays of the concerto repertoire and a work of great sweep and lyricism. Art Exhibits
Three art exhibits are currently on display at Lehigh. At the Dubois Gallery in Maginnes Hall, Guidos Llinas: Forgotten Cuban Master and Blanka Sperkova: Poetry Made of Wire, are on display through December 13. At Iacocca Hall on the Mountaintop Campus, Lehigh Art Alliance Juried Exhibition: Mixed Media Works is on display through Friday. At the Zoellner Arts Center, A View From Here: Issues of Cultural Identity & Perspective in Contemporary Russian and American Art, will be on display through December 21.

Mideast Doable, Not Easy, Panel Agrees
Jewish and Muslim, Palestinian and Israeli students participated in a forum Thursday to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East. They agreed that peace between Israelis and Palestinians is possible, but not without significant compromises and efforts by political leaders in the region. Both the governments as they currently stand are incapable of achieving peace, said Gil Cnaan, an 11th generation Israeli Jew and a Lehigh sophomore.

Muhlenberg College Prepares to Inaugurate President
This weekend, more than three months after moving his family photographs into the president's office at Muhlenberg College, Randy Helm will celebrate his new position with nearly--but not all--the pomp and fanfare the 155-year old school can muster. Previous Lehigh Valley inaugurals have featured show-stoppers such as a speech by former Polish president and Nobel Prize winner Lech Walesa for Lehigh University President Greg Farrington.
