Los Angeles Times Reports Death of Lynn Beedle
Lynn S. Beedle, 85, University Distinguished Professor of civil engineering at Lehigh and a structural engineer who created the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and championed an elegant tower, perhaps the tallest in the world to replace the World Trade Center destroyed by terrorists in 2001, died Thursday.

Eric Kaplan, dean of admissions at Lehigh, was interviewed on National Public Radio's Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane today on the topic of the pressure faced by high school seniors heading to college. When asked about the perception among parents and prospective students that the essay needs to be perfect, Kaplan said, At highly selective institutions like Lehigh, the essay plays an important role, but the reality is it doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be good. And good means genuine.

The House of Representatives, Foreign Policy Research Institute
Henri Barkey, chair of the international relations department and Bernard L. and Bertha F. Cohen Professor of International Relations, recently addressed the Democratic caucus of the House of Representatives on the situation in Iraq on Oct. 23. Later today, he will address the Foreign Policy Research Institute on The New Turkey at the 2nd Annual Alvin Z. Rubenstein Memorial Lecture at the Union League of Philadelphia.

Lehigh Happy to be Road Warriors Again
The same things that can make football road trips so depressing are what also can make them so fun. There's no family, no friends, said Lehigh senior defensive end Mike Gregorek, a former Bethlehem Catholic star at Lehigh's weekly football luncheon/press conference Wednesday at Starter's Pub. It's just football from the time you get on that bus. I think being on the road sometimes actually can be an advantage. There are also disadvantages to being on the road, coach Pete Lembo pointed out shortly after listening to Gregorek's remarks. You can only dress 58 players and they might use as many as 75 players in the game.
