NewsHour with Jim Leher (PBS)

Henri Barkey, chair of the international relations department at Lehigh, was interviewed last night on the NewHour with Jim Leher concerning the latest terrorism in Turkey. Some people have speculated that this had to do with Turkey's position on Iraq, that the Turkish decision ultimately to send troops to Iraq may have influenced al-Qaida, Barkey said. I don't think that's the case. I think al-Qaida planned this very methodically over a long period of time, and it just turned out that Istanbul was a very convenient location.

Lehigh Women Have a Tall Order to Fill in Tierney's Absence

The Lehigh University women's basketball team appears to have a mountain of a task trying to replace the Patriot League's all-time career rebounding leader, Anne Tierney, at center. Tierney, who was voted to the league's first team three straight seasons, was also the Mountain Hawks' leading scorer and top defender, and was an 80-percent free throw shooter

Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia will perform at Zoellner Arts Center tonight at 8 p.m. The performance will feature a live orchestra of native instruments and dancers in festive costumes performing folk dances. Chronicle of Higher Education

College students graduating in the spring of 2004 will find a somewhat friendlier job market than those who graduated a year earlier, according to a new report on labor-recruiting trends by researchers at Michigan State University. In a survey of 450 companies, 60 percent said they expected to increase their hiring or hire at the same level as in the current year.
