Richard M. Brandt, director of the Iacocca Institute, kicked off the opening ceremony of the FIELD Study and Research Center (Training, Innovation, Emersion Local, Planning) of the Calabria region in Italy. The Center, which links the Calabria region of Italy with Lehigh and creates a transnational laboratory for leadership training program exchanges, has received visible and public support from the president of Italy, Mr. Carlo A. Ciampi. The Iacocca Institute, with its accumulated experience and acquired knowledge, and the FIELD School, with its strategic location in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, will work together to give direct and customized support to the next generation of entrepreneurs. The two institutions will coordinate activities of study, research and documentation on leadership and managerial skills for future leaders. The FIELD School Director, Ms. Rosaria Amantea, is a 2002 graduate of the Iacocca Institute’s Global Village for Future Leaders and Industry.

Leeman-Turner Arena Pumps up Volume

Intense is the only way to describe the feeling in Lehigh University's new Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall last Friday night when the Iowa State Cyclones came to town to take on the second-ranked Mountain Hawk wrestlers. The initial awe of the renovated building took a couple seconds to wash over, and then the noise became overwhelming. Grace Hall is a great place to wrestle, said Lehigh senior wrestler Brad Dillon, a Parkland High School graduate. They call it the 'Snake Pit' because you feel the crowd on top of you. It's definitely a fun place to wrestle.

Ferrum Psychology Professor Tries to Cure Snake Phobia

Kevin Reilly, assistant professor of psychology at Ferrum College who first began research on phobias while in graduate school at Lehigh, wants to know what you're afraid of. And if you're terrified of snakes, he'd like to try to cure you. Reilly has launched a study of the irrational, excessive fear of snakes, known scientifically as ophidiophobia.

Parkland Picks Superintendent From Within

Forgoing the traditional search for a new superintendent, the Parkland School Board on Tuesday opted to promote Assistant Superintendent Louise E. Donohue, who earned her doctorate in education from Lehigh University in 1995, to the top spot when Gary McCartney retires in the spring.

Chronicle of Higher Education

The Federal Government should create a uniform policy dictating how agencies handle conflicts of interest in the university research they finance, a new report by the General Accounting Office says. Only two agencies, the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, now require universities to identify and manage potential conflicts, the report says.
