Birth of a Major? How and Why?
Ron Yoshida, Lehigh provost and vice president for academic affairs, was interviewed for a story on what colleges are doing to remain on the cutting edge in an ever-changing world. Yoshida says the University's relationship with business grew out of its tradition of engineering, and he is proud and thankful for those ties. We've had a lot of intimate ties with corporations, he says. They come here to have us consult them on their businesses, and several have us test their products. Those companies include IBM, General Motors, Unisys, Ingersoll, major accounting firms, and Wall Street firms, he says.

Minority Voices
Kashi Johnson, assistant professor of theatre at Lehigh, is preparing to launch her second performance to dramatize issues relevant to the status of minority students at Lehigh: Speaking Freely, Diverse Lehigh Voices.'' I am fascinated by the power that everyday people have with their words. Everyday people can say the most amazing things. If you ever felt like the 'other person' or ever wanted to be a fly on the wall, this will be a fascinating and interesting experience for you,'' says Johnson. ''Speaking Freely, Diverse Lehigh Voices,'' will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday, 2 p.m. Sunday, then 8 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 22

Lehigh's Schwendenmann Named Freshman of Week
Michelle Schwendenmann of the Lehigh women's volleyball team was named Patriot League freshman of the week. Schwendenmann posted a double-double in a 3-0 win over Holy Cross with 11 kills and 11 digs. She also had a career-high of 21 kills in a 3-0 win over Army.

Friday's Lineup is Stellar for Classical Fans
The Prague Chamber Orchestra with the Eroica Trio will offer a program featuring Beethoven's Triple Concerto for piano, violin, cello and orchestra at 8 p.m., in Zoellner Art Center. The Bethlehem concert will feature four wonderful works for cello and piano, a unique opportunity to get familiar with compositions performed infrequently.

Newab Reopens
City residents with a hankering for chicken tikka masala or lamb vindaloo are in luck. Nawab Indian Restaurant is back in business. The popular East Fourth Street eatery reopened Wednesday, nearly two months after arson forced owners Nirmal and Amy Saini to temporarily close the restaurant. I'm very happy we're back in business, Saini said. Late August through December is one of the busiest times for Nawab because Lehigh University students return for classes, she said.
