College of Business and Economics Professor Robert Thornton's new book, The Lexicon of Intentionally Ambiguous Recommendations (LIAR), continues to gain media attention. In his book, Thornton, offers readers advice on how to write a recommendation for a good-for-nothing co-worker. For example, if the co-worker was a drunk, Thornton suggests writing, She was always high in my opinion. A criminal? It won't take long for him to break in at your place.

The Evolution of Creationism
Michael Behe, professor of biological sciences at Lehigh, continues to gain media attention. A recent article on the book, By Design: Science and the Search for God, by Larry Witham, mentioned Behe and his belief in irreducible complexity. Behe maintains that a Darwinian explanation of 'highly coordinated' parts is not successful, the article said. As Witham describes Behe's belief in irreducible complexity, it means that 'every single subsystem has to be useful and fit from the beginning--or the system won't work.' Behe points to bacterial flagellum as one example of irreducible complexity.

One Strike Suit and You're Out
Carole Gorney, professor of journalism and communications at Lehigh, authored an article on the Supreme Court's surprising move to reverse their earlier decision to consider Nike v. Kasky, an appeal by the sports shoe maker challenging the constitutionality of a California ruling that substantially limits corporate free speech. The Court's decision--or more accurately, non-decision--now leaves corporations in legal limbo and seriously jeopardizes their ability to contribute to public discourse, comment on unfair criticism or defend against civil litigation, Gorney wrote.

Freshman defender John O'Reilly of the Lehigh men's soccer team has been named the Patriot League freshman of the week for his efforts in Lehigh's 3-1 victory over Navy on Saturday. O'Reilly and the Mountain Hawk defense held Navy to just five shots in the game.

Amanda Besemer knew a long time ago she wanted to something special for her accounting professor at Northampton Community College, C. Scott Barhight. Barhight, who graduated from Lehigh University, helped Besemer with her anxiety problems and put her on a path to a successful career when she was a 19-year-old student.
