School suits: Educators face a variety of legal claims, spurious or not.
Perry Zirkel, professor of education and law, College of Education, provided opinion and commentary in the lead article appearing in the May 17 issue of National Law Journal, in both the print and online version. Education law expert Perry Zirkel, a professor at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., who has tracked school lawsuits from the 1940s, said the belief that schools are under attack from the courts is false, the article said. There's a myth that education litigation has exploded in terms of frequency and volume, and that the pendulum in terms of who's winning is in favor of the people suing the school districts, he said. Zirkel, who conducted a random sample of school lawsuits filed from the 1940s through 2000, said the number of cases peaked in the 1970s, but dropped at a consistent rate since then (though he did not have total figures available). He also found in reviewing cases over the same time period that the courts consistently sided with schools.

The link gives adult students a clearer path from the Wescoe School's bachelor of business administration studies to Lehigh's program. Little Pond Arts Center Kicks Off Season of Workshops and Performances
Jack Vickrey, retired professor of English literature at Lehigh, will be performing at Little Pond in Nazareth 2004 season of arts workshops and performances on Saturday. While at Lehigh, Vickrey’s specialties were Old English and History of the English Language. He has published essays on Beowulf and other Old English poems, as well as on Dante's Inferno. He's given many spoken-word performances at Lehigh and elsewhere and has participated in readings for the Stephen Vincent Benet Centennial.
