Landscape Exhibitions Never Seem to Draw This Much Attention
The Chronicle of Higher Education ran a brief in the March 5th issue on the Larry Fink exhibit in Lehigh University's Dubois Gallery. Critics of the photos--which feature models posing as Mr. Bush and others--are more irate about where they are being shown than about what they portray. Lehigh officials are standing behind the gallery. The photos are intended to prompt discussion, says Andrew M. Stanten, a university spokesman. Mr. Fink says they have succeeded: It's rare that art could generate this kind of steam.

Evolution Critics Come Under Fire
An article by Wall Street Journal Science writer Sharon Begley critical of the intelligent design theory put forth by critics of Darwin, including Michael Behe, professor of biological sciences at Lehigh was picked up in the Asian edition of the Journal. Complex living structures, Behe argues, possess 'irreducible complexity.' That is, they can't function until all their components are assembled, much as a mousetrap isn't much good until the base, spring, bar and all the rest are connected. Moreover, the individual parts of complex structures supposedly serve no function. Because evolution selects only the fittest innovations, useless ones vanish.

Lehigh University's College of Business Receives $10 Million Gift
The news of Wall Street dealmaker Joseph Perella and his wife Amy's $10 million endowment to the College of Business and Economics was mentioned in a leading higher education trade journal. According to the write up, the college will use interest from the Perellas' donation to fund a minimum of four endowed positions for finance professors.

Red Cross Adapting in Very Different World
Joseph Stockunas, a graduate of Lehigh University, never expected he'd move back to the area and guide an organization focused on educating the community to prepare for emergencies. He is chairman of the board of directors for the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The businessman has lent his experience in marketing, strategizing and selling to Red Cross programs including a campaign called Together We Prepare. On Saturday, the agency will hold a family-oriented day of preparedness training and activities at Iacocca Hall on Lehigh University's Mountaintop Campus.
