Frank Pazzaglia, associate professor of earth and environmental science at Lehigh, was mentioned in an article on the ice age that existed in New Mexico 10,000 years ago. Understanding the mix between summer and winter precipitation is critical to understanding resulting changes on the landscape, Pazzaglia said.

Lehigh's CHOICES (Charting Horizons and Opportunities in Careers in Engineering and Science) program took place at Lehigh's Mountaintop Campus yesterday. Believers Say Oil is Seeping from Icon in Bethlehem

Gregory Ferguson, associate professor of chemistry at Lehigh, was quoted in an article about a 25-year-old icon at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church that is exuding a colorless, odorless oil that started in late February, at the beginning of the Orthodox holiday of Great Lent. He said an analyst might be able to come up with a hypothesis about the oil's origins. ''It's important to recognize that even if one did that, it doesn't diminish the spiritual importance of what's happening,'' he said. ''Science and theology are not opposed to one another. They are complementary ways of viewing the world. They're different, but not opposed.''

About 200 people interested in hearing the merits and drawbacks of the controversial USA Patriot Act filled a third of the auditorium to listen to lawyers argue both sides.

The Latest Corporate Merger

Lehigh University associate professor of accounting Parveen Gupta was quoted in an article about NBC's The Apprentice -- the reality TV show where wannabe corporate executives battle for a job with mogul Donald Trump. Gupta said some of what he sees on the show disturbs him. Sometimes the women were using their sex appeal to win and they were being rewarded for winning, Gupta said. So you have students saying 'gee, that must be all that matters in corporate America despite all the talk about ethics.' Gupta encourages his students to scrutinize The Apprentice and its obsession with making money and winning. I think we need to start paying attention to how someone won rather than who won…I think we have to look at if they won playing by the rules.
