Search for Clever Name Can Lead to Shear Madness
Sally Handlon, program director for business education at Lehigh's Small Business Development Center, was quoted in an article on the struggle by small businesses to come up with a clever name. There's a proper way to name a business, and there's the emotional way, said Handlon. The proper way is to think about the business and the way you can efficiently communicate what your business is through the name, she said.
And the emotional way? Dreaming up a name and then trying to make the business fit.

Was the War Worth its Price?
At the year anniversary of the start of the war with Iraq, Henri Barkey, chair of the international relations department at Lehigh, was quoted in an article on the financial cost of the war. What's impressive -- and maybe more credit goes to Iraqis than to us -- is that economic activity has picked up, said Barkey, also the former State Department Iraq expert. Clearly there's money out there. People are going to jobs and working.

Study: Crack Not the Cause of Crane Crash
Researchers at Lehigh determined that fractures discovered in steel parts at the top of a crane were not the cause of the collapse that occurred on an Ohio highway last month, killing four workers and injuring four. However, Dr. John Fisher of Lehigh said the finding does not mean that steel failure has been totally ruled out. Lehigh engineers have not yet studied a portion of the drive leg of the truss that was sent there for study, he said.

...While Missing Weapons Still Haunt Us
Former U.N weapons inspector Hans Blix's talk at Zoellner Arts Center last Tuesday was the topic of an Op Ed. A year ago, former U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix had trouble getting people to listen to him. Last week, he spoke to a full, welcoming house at Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Center. What a difference a year makes, the article said. …The Bush administration 'put exclamation marks where there should have been question marks,' Mr. Blix told the Zoellner audience. 'Inspectors were content to say that such weapons were unaccounted for. Bush wanted the world to believe that they existed.' In fairness, so did Saddam.
