Handover Boosts Families' Optimism
Ziad Munson, assistant professor of sociology at Lehigh, was quoted in an article on the boost in optimism felt by the families of local troops following the handover of power in Iraq. Munson said he doubts the interim Iraqi government will flower into a democracy. He said the interim Iraqi government was not quite a puppet regime, but it's close. Just because it is Iraqis that hold official positions of power does not mean that they hold the real power in the country, and I think how much they have remains to be seen, Munson said.
