Z. Candi Staurinos, a marketing associate for the Zoellner Arts Center in Bethlehem, Pa., is traveling to the Olympic games as a volunteer with the softball competition and said she's looking forward to the Hellenic heritage as much as the home runs. Having the Olympics come back to Athens is definitely an opportunity to showcase more than sports, she said. I think the cultural events are important to any Olympic Games. Staurinos, who is first generation Greek, is also excited about having the world's eye on her home turf. Athens is a very cultural city to begin with, she said. All you have to do is walk down the street to see performances. There are plays in open amphitheaters, concerts, and a Greek style of music called Rembetiko.

Terrorism Will Not Beat McCoy
Kerry McCoy, assistant coach for Lehigh University's wrestling team, isn't about to let the terrorists strike fear into his heart, and neither is his family. He earned a spot as heavyweight for the U.S. Olympic freestyle wresting team. As a member of the Olympic team, McCoy is getting his expenses for his trip to Greece paid for, but his family wants to go too, determined to show the world that the existence of terrorists is not a deterrent to attending a world showcase on human athletic excellence.

Planners Suggest Restrictive Zoning for South Mountain
Land between Lehigh University’s mountaintop campus, the South Side and Saucon Park has been recommended by the Bethlehem Planning Commission as more restrictive zoning designation, a wooded area that real estate developers have seized upon in recent months. With four proposals for a total of 131 units, the commission needed to move quickly before more plans were grandfathered in, planner Laurence Krauter said. City staff had recommended that the land be rezoned from medium- and high-density residential to a new rural residential transition zone that would allow less intensive development on the mountain.
