Sure Fit petitions court to approve Aug. 3 auction

Dale Falcinelli, professor of practice in the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh, was quoted in an article on Sure Fit Slipcover’s announcement that is petitioned federal bankruptcy court this week for permission to be sold in an auction on Aug. 3. An auction could get the attention of funds that invest in so-called late-stage companies, said Falcinelli. ''With some refinement and with an infusion of capital, this thing can get back on track,'' he said. ''The auction will awaken — stimulate — the interest of a number of financial investor funds. There will be terrific opportunity to acquire intangible and tangible assets for a very attractive price.''

9-11 Report: Reactions range from praise to questions on action points

Ziad Munson, assistant professor of sociology at Lehigh, was quoted in an article on reactions to the 9-11 report. Munson said he doubts the effectiveness of the suggestions to prevent terrorism listed in the report's executive summary. The suggestions include communicating American ideals, forming a coalition of governments against terrorism and targeting terrorist travel. With regard to the specific suggestions made on (pages) 18-20 of the executive summary, they strike me as sufficiently abstract that everyone can agree to them yet they are unlikely to spur specific changes in how the country deals with terrorist threats, Munson wrote in an e-mail reply to a reporter's questions.
