Greenhouse Awards $1.5M
Lehigh University was mentioned as one of the schools receiving an award from the Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse. On Tuesday the Greenhouse awarded $1.5 million in funding to nine projects at Pennsylvania universities and technology firms working in areas related to the use of system-on-a-chip technology in the digital multimedia and networking markets. Schools receiving awards include Lehigh University, the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Pennsylvania State University. Companies involved in projects include BitArmor Systems, Intelligent Micro Design, and Identifi Technologies.

Rendell to Create Technology Zone on City’s South Side
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell was at Lehigh University today to tap the school and most of South Side Bethlehem as the state's first Keystone Innovation Zone. The designation is part of a new $20 million program the governor's office says is designed to attract and keep high-tech employers, and stop brain drain by keeping science-major college graduates in the area.

Eagles Training Camp Set to Start July 27
A meeting at Lehigh University on Tuesday, July 27 will be held when the Eagles begin their 2004 training camp. They will begin practice on Wednesday, July 28. The group will hold three days of workouts - which are open to the public - before the rest of the players report for a team meeting Friday night, July 30. The first full team session begins July 31 and is closed to the public.

3 Companies Get Backing from Ben Franklin Center
Ben Franklin, whose northeastern branch is at Lehigh University, invests in promising startup companies by issuing low-interest loans. The quasi-governmental agency also helps established companies remain competitive. Three Lehigh Valley companies will receive more than $400,000 from Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The three companies are: Grid Sentinel of Lower Macungie Township, a developer of power monitoring and diagnostics software for high-voltage transmission lines; Infinera Corp., a Sunnyvale, Calif., company with a manufacturing operation in Allentown that makes fiber-optic equipment; and MedHesives Inc. of Bethlehem, a maker of resin sealants used on ships and other materials subject to harsh environments.
