Lehigh’s assistant wrestling coach Kerry McCoy's comments about pursuing Olympic gold continue to get picked up in papers across the country, this time in the Houston Chronicle, the country's 9th largest newspaper. “A gold medal would be the ultimate,” said McCoy. “I have an Olympic flag hanging in my bedroom; I see it every time I wake up and go to sleep.”

Lehigh's electron microscope was mentioned in an article on Internet2, the cleaner and speedier, next-generation Internet, developed by research institutions and universities to avoid the data clog and commercialism. Chester County students will soon be able to use Lehigh University's electron microscope, the article said.

Lehigh University Receives $10 Million Endowment
Lehigh's announcement of the single largest gift ever made to its business school: a $10 million endowment from Wall Street dealmaker Joseph Perella and his wife, Amy, continues to gain media attention. Lehigh administrators hope the money, which was given to the College of Business and Economics, will spark other contributions and catapult the university closer to becoming one of the nation's top business schools.

“At the MBA level we need to blend theory with practice, because we are training students not just for their first job but for their second and third positions as well,” said Durand.

Caywood Juggling Studies, Swimming at Lehigh
Chris Caywood knew the challenges he encountered in the classroom would prove as difficult as any tests he faced in the pool his freshman year at Lehigh. The Sebastian River graduate's first college semester demonstrated that. He finished second in the 500 freestyle (4 minutes, 35.89 seconds) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:43.33) at the Class 2A state meet his senior year. He's done a great job, Lehigh coach John Morrison said. He's training very well. It's a different kind of environment with him being in the Northeast now and obviously academically. But he's handled all these situations very well.

Orwell’s “1984” Draws Parallels to 2004
Nikolai Eberhardt, professor emeritus of science, technology and society at Lehigh, recently reread 1984 for the first time since his undergraduate days in the 1950s in Munich, Germany. I came to the conclusion that in those days, I found it too gory, too depressing, Eberhardt said in mid-December in the living room of his Lower Saucon Township home. Eberhardt had studied physics and worked in the electronics industry before becoming a professor of electrical engineering at Lehigh. Eberhardt's side work culminated in his 1998 book, From the Big Bang to the Human Predicament.
