University Art Display Sparks Protest
Artist Larry Fink's The Forbidden Pictures: A Political Tableau, on display in DuBois Gallery in Maginnes Hall, continues to stir debate. A leading paper in London has now picked up the story. Fink believes that the 2000 election was stolen and referred to the Bush administration as our current fraudulent leaders. College Republicans are 'outraged' and are asking for the exhibit to be relocated. The exhibit's curator, Ricardo Viera, makes no apologies, saying it is meant to promote discussion. Universities are a forum for diverse ideas and intellectual challenges, he said. Andrew Stanten, Director of University Communications, similarly defended the exhibit when he told Talon News, The display of Larry Fink's art is not intended to be an endorsement of any particular viewpoints. We believe the University's role is to deliberately expose students to differing points of view. Art like this prompts discussion, inspires, and engages.

Rowland Rules on the Court at Lehigh
Lehigh University's fifth-year senior basketball guard Austen Rowland, who graduated from St. Vincent Pallotti in 1999, wasn't about to have his recent return home spoiled in overtime at American University last month. Tied at 53 after regulation, Rowland took matters into his own hands. After corralling the opening tip of the extra period, Rowland confidently jogged the ball up court and immediately drilled a three-point bomb from the top of the key. I don't know, he (American University guard Andres Rodriquez) backed off a little, and I was just feeling it, Rowland said, explaining his first shot in OT.
