Provocative Bush Photo Gains More Attention
The exhibit by photographer Larry Fink that's currently displayed in Maginnes Hall was covered on Fox News last night. Fink was interviewed along with Lehigh's Ricardo Viera, curator of the exhibit, and Neal Hoffman, president of the College Republicans. Why would we have this here on campus during an election year when we didn't have anything of the sort for the last eight years while Clinton was in office? Hoffman asked. Viera said, This is lampoon. This is cartoon. We are not taking a position here.

CBC Says Bush’s Visit with King Family Rings Hollow
Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), was the keynote speaker at Lehigh University’s Martin Luther King events. He said President Bush has repeatedly refused to meet with the 39-member caucus. Some members of the CBC were seething over President Bush’s visit to the King family, which they saw as a hollow attempt to foster ties with the black community.

Project Aims to Pare Prejudicial Practices
Flordelisa Pérez, a graduate student in political science at Lehigh, is coordinating the Study Circles community dialogue program as part of her master's thesis. The series of four weekly meetings for eight to 12 people is geared to open their eyes to the problems that exist within them and their surroundings, and to help participants find a way to battle these problems. ''People have already expressed a concern for the voices that are not normally heard,'' said Pérez, ''Several have said it feels good to get it out. It's almost therapeutic in a way.''

Area Institutions Offer Different Paths for Architects
Lehigh University offers students the opportunity to obtain a pre-professional undergraduate degree in architecture. After graduation, approximately half of the students go on to pursue three years of graduate work. Bruce Thomas, associate professor of art and architecture and former chair of the department of art and architecture at Lehigh said, “Graduate degrees in architecture take people with varied backgrounds, but it helps to have an undergraduate degree in architecture.” As recently as last year, Lehigh began offering a new major that marries courses from the College of Arts and Sciences with courses from the College of Engineering into an interdisciplinary program in design. “This is a new major and it’s unusual because it will bridge between the two colleges,” says Thomas.

Tech Group Provides Firm $80G in Funding
Lehigh's Metal Forming Institute has partnered with Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania to increase the investment in MegaPhase, a manufacturer of coaxial cables, adapters, and connectors for testing and permanent installation in electronic equipment. Lehigh's role involves improving the company’s design and manufacturing processes.

Rep. Pat Toomey has accepted an invitation from The Morning Call and NBC 10 to debate Sen. Arlen Specter in Bethlehem at Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Center. The Pennsylvania League of Women Voters, which signed on Tuesday to co-host the debate, urged Specter in a letter to consider the event, which would take place before a live audience in Zoellner's Baker Hall, be distributed for statewide broadcast and involve a national TV network moderator.
