Abundant Classical Scene Stretched Musical Bounds
Lehigh University employee Philip Metzger wrote an article on concerts in the Lehigh Valley in 2003. He featured a concert in April in Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Center. Although 20th century English composer Benjamin Britten's monumental War Requiem probably is not familiar to most concert-goers, those who heard Stephen Sametz's presentation of it with the Choral Union, soloists and orchestra could not argue that it's not only one of the greatest choral works of the 20th century, but also of any century.

Holy Cross Football Hired Lehigh University Assistant
Lehigh defensive coordinator Tom Gilmore has been hired as the new football coach at Holy Cross. Gilmore replaces Dan Allen, who was fired last month after Holy Cross set a single-season record for losses in a 1-11 season. It is Gilmore's first collegiate head-coaching job.

Lehigh Valley’s Economic Engine Has Not Been Properly Primed
The Lehigh Valley faces an uncertain economic future unless it improves at attracting investment to urban centers and comes up with better ways to plan and get communities to work together, according to a report issued by a Washington, D.C., think tank.
According to the report, cities, boroughs and older townships - all of these places have established claims and have the lion's share of the state's key assets, whether it's a Lehigh University or an attractive downtown restaurant row, or core businesses that have been around for a while.

The Challenge of Leading the Shorebirds
Though many years have passed, Steve Yaros, a 1990 graduate of Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, still recalls fondly his first Yankee Stadium experience, when his father gathered the family for the short trek from New Jersey to The House that Ruth Built. He recently took over as the Delmarva Shorebirds' general manager, replacing Jim Terrill.

Villanova Not Very Hospitable at McCaffery’s Homecoming
Fran McCaffery, who coached at Lehigh University from 1985-88, coached in his first game back in the area. Unfortunately, he had to play a Villanova team that's been on a roll and the Spartans are 0-10 all-time against Big East teams.
