Pugh Proving People Wrong
Jermaine Pugh, senior at Lehigh, has been told all his life that he’s just not big enough for football. The 5-foot-5 student has not only proven those critics wrong, but made believers out of most of them. Pugh, whose playing days at Delbarton are still talked about, has made a living putting up big numbers in big games for the 25th-ranked Mountain Hawks.

Youths Take Center Stage in 'Nutcracker'
After months of preparation, the annual Christmas season ballet comes to the stage in Baker Hall, Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University. In a classic holiday tale told through music and dance, a young girl named Clara falls into a deep sleep and her dream world comes to life through the cast members of the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's production of The Nutcracker.

Plan Ahead: Inflatable Buddha Takes Up Residence at Zoellner
''Paranirvana (Self-Portrait),'' Lewis deSoto's 26-foot-long inflatable Buddha, will be in residence from Jan. 14 through March 21 in Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Gallery.
A manipulator of oscilloscopes and ice, deSoto teaches art at San Francisco State University.

Senator Rhoades Seeks Seventh Term in 29th District
Six-term Republican state Sen. James J. Rhoades, who received a master's in education from Lehigh, announced Thursday he will seek a seventh term in 2004. Rhoades, 62, of Mahanoy City, represents Schuylkill County and parts of Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties and is a former public school teacher and principal who has been in the Senate since 1980.
