Power Line Debate Leaves Customers Paying the Bill
Donald Boelle, interim chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Lehigh, was quoted in an article about the customers of Connecticut Light & Power, who recently footed much of a $6 billion bill for burying high-voltage power lines. “Burying high-voltage electric wires has been common for a number of years overseas, particularly in countries such as Italy and the Netherlands,” said Boelle. “It is typically done in high-density urban areas where acquiring land and homes to clear a path for overhead wires isn’t practical.”

Lehigh Certified to Participate in State Program
Gov. Edward G. Rendell recently announced that Lehigh University has been certified by the Pennsylvania Department of community and Economic Development (DCED) to participate in the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Program, a cornerstone of his Economic Stimulus Package, the DCED said. The KIZ program designates zones in college and university communities that will foster innovation and create entrepreneurial opportunities to keep young, talented graduates in Pennsylvania.

The U.S. men's freestyle wrestling team — including Kerry McCoy, the Lehigh University assistant coach and coach of the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club — is holding a press conference today to introduce the team to the media. McCoy is the team's heavyweight, and he was looked upon as the team spokesman during the Pan American Championships last year.
