Former Steel Giants Find Savior in ISG
Mary Beth Deily, associate professor of economics at Lehigh, continues to appear in articles about International Steel Group (ISG). In business for just two years, ISG has catapulted to the top of the industry by buying bankrupt steel makers--like Bethlehem Steel--at bargain prices. “ISG has been pretty successful, more successful than any time in the past,” said Deily, who follows the steel industry. ISG has succeeded at “dealing with the union and getting everybody on board and moving ahead and getting the workers to kind of buy into what sacrifices they have to make to keep this capacity running.”

Lehigh Valley Lags in Wireless Access
Parts of Lehigh University campus were mentioned in an article as one of the region’s biggest public hot spots when it comes to Wi-Fi areas. Lehigh Valley International Airport is the region's biggest public hot spot. Others include the Borders bookstore on MacArthur Road, Whitehall Township, and Edge restaurant in downtown Bethlehem. The Lehigh Valley is a short drive away from one of the country's hottest Wi-Fi areas, but the Valley itself remains largely switched-off to the wireless Internet technology. That's what a study released Monday by chipmaker Intel Corp. found. The survey ranked public access to Wi-Fi wireless Net service in the country's 100 largest urban areas. The Lehigh Valley ranked 78th, a dozen spots lower than last year. Wi-Fi is available in several Lehigh University buildings and public spaces, according to the university.
