Castor Makes No Apologies for Campaign
Frank T. Colon, political science professor at Lehigh, was quoted in an article about Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr.'s loss to Tom Corbett for attorney general. Castor's campaign centered on the donation and support that Bob Asher, the state's leading Republican fund-raiser, gave to Corbett; now, to accomplish anything in state Republican politics, Castor will have to overcome the wrath of Asher and his many allies. Castor is going to have to do some grassroots repair before he starts on any other type of career, Colon said.

Henri Barkey, chair of the international relations department at Lehigh, was one of the American academicians who attracted attention with a presentation at the Seventh Abant Platform, a notable intellectual formation that encompasses various views. The focus of the Platform, which took place in one of Washington's most prestigious academic institutions, the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on April 19-20, 2004, was Islam, Secularism and Democracy: The Turkish Experience.

Dent and Driscoll Gear Up to Battle for Congress
David C. Amidon Jr., associate professor of urban studies at Lehigh, was quoted in an article about Charlie Dent in the race for the Lehigh Valley’s seat in Congress. I have trouble seeing a congenial middle-of-the-road Republican like Dent being knocked out of the box by a carpetbagger, said Amidon. For 14 years, the Republican lawmaker has represented parts of Lehigh County, including the Democratic stronghold of Allentown. A moderate, he has enjoyed the support of voters from both major parties and has never lost a general election. And, most importantly, he's the only candidate from the Lehigh Valley — a fact the Allentown man will not be shy about repeating over the next six months to browbeat Democratic foe Joe Driscoll, who hails from Haverford.

Not All Convention Delegates Are Alike
Linda J. Harbrecht, marketing communications manager in the University Relations department at Lehigh, was one of the delegates the region's voters have chosen to attend the party political conventions this summer. Five Democrats will go to Boston, and all are committed to nominating Kerry. They beat out five other delegate candidates who were on the ballot committed to other Democratic presidential candidates.

Lehigh’s Choral Arts, Concord Chamber Singers Share Stage
On Friday and Saturday at Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University Choral Arts will perform with the Concord Chamber Singers, all under the direction of Steven Sametz. The program might be called breezy and eclectic: breezy because it involves a lot of wind production from singers and woodwinds, and eclectic because it brings together composers who don't often share a concert stage: Brahms, Bruckner, Stravinsky, and the selfsame Sametz.
The Lehigh University Wind Ensemble has discovered that 26 countries around the world have flags containing red, white and blue, and have fashioned a concert around this fact. The program on Sunday afternoon includes music by composers from some of these countries, including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Darius Milhaud. Lehigh University Wind Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Zoellner Arts Center.
And on Monday evening, student composers at Lehigh will realize the dream of any composer: to hear his or her own work performed. LUVME (the Lehigh University Very Modern Ensemble) and the Lehigh University Philharmonic, conducted by Paul Salerni, Lehigh's composition instructor, will do the honors at 8 p.m. on Monday in Zoellner Arts Center.
