Lehigh University alumna Kristin Kramer was quoted in an article about how college can be a whirlwind of deadlines and dates. The article suggests that students starting college put a schedule together. As you receive a syllabus for each class, transfer important dates – due dates for term papers, final exam and midterm dates, reading assignments, etc. – to the calendar. Presto – your entire semester is laid out before your very eyes, the article says. Kramer agrees: “That way, when you have two things due at the same time, you can’t say, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize that.’ You have no excuse,” she says.

Simpson Lawyer: System Flawed
The criminal justice system in America fails sometimes, Barry C. Scheck, the noted DNA expert and attorney on the O.J. Simpson defense team, told a crowd at Lehigh University's Packard Auditorium last night. “I found almost nothing positive that came out of the O.J. Simpson case,” said Scheck, who teaches legal ethics at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York City and directs the university's criminal education and trial practice program. Brian Pinaire, assistant professor of political science at Lehigh, assigned Scheck's book, “Actual Innocence: Five Days to Execution, and Other Dispatches From the Wrongly Convicted,” to two of his classes. “I was mortified by it,” Pinaire said. “It's an eye-opening book and shows you what can happen when the justice system fails.”

Judge Rendell to Speak in Bethlehem
U.S. District Court Judge Marjorie Rendell, Pennsylvania's first lady, will be keynote speaker for the Bethlehem Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on May 13. Rendell's speech is scheduled for Lehigh University's Mountaintop Campus in Bethlehem. She is expected to talk about the economic impact of the arts on the urban commercial core.
