School psychology program is top-ranked
In addition to ranking second overall among all American Psychological Association (APA) programs, Lehigh’s school psychology program is first in terms of productivity per faculty member.
In a recent issue of School Psychology Quarterly, the official publication of Division 16 - School of the American Psychological Association, an article compares scholarly productivity of all APA-approved programs in school psychology from 1995-99.
The study ranked APA-accredited school psychology programs with respect to journal publications, identified the major journals in which these programs publish their work, and highlighted conceptual themes reflected in the journal publications of the top programs.
The College of Education’s school psychology program is listed as one of the top three programs with the label “the most prolific school psychology program faculties” in the nation. Lehigh’s school psychology faculty size of four is half that of the top-ranked program. “Productivity” refers to the number of research publications appearing in the major school psychology journals.
The article states that “prospective graduate students and faculty applicants with clearly defined research interests also might take note of publication themes in top programs. For example, individuals interested in intervention, especially behavioral intervention, would be wise to look toward Lehigh University.”
Lehigh’s influence in the field continues to be strong, as not only are our faculty and students extremely productive, but one of the graduates of our school psychology program is on the program faculty at one of the top five programs. Further, our alumni are faculty across several of the top 20 programs in the country,” says George DuPaul, school psychology program coordinator.
