Rufus Wainwright takes Zoellner stage
Hailed by The New York Times as “one of the most whimsical and original singer/songwriters to come along in years,” Rufus Wainwright will perform his introspective, wry and heart-wrenching songs at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 at Zoellner Arts Center.
Wainwright is the son of folksingers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle. His third CD, Want One, follows two earlier albums which seem to appear on everyone’s Top Ten lists. His songs combine the sensual and the cerebral, mixing sharp commentary with soaring pop melodies.
Following the concert, Zoellner will host Solo Night, a dessert, wine and beer reception to help single attendees meet other mature and unattached arts lovers. This is the first Solo Night of the new season. Another one will follow the Dresden Philharmonic performance on Nov. 12.
Rufus Wainwright appears as part of Zoellner’s EdgeEvents, a series of avant garde, cutting-edge performances.
Concert prices are $25/24/20 (orchestra/grand tier/balcony) and Solo Night tickets are $10 each. For tickets, call (610) 758-2787 (7LU-ARTS), visit Zoellner Ticket Services, Monday through Friday from 11 am-6 pm, Saturday 1l am-2 pm, and two hours before curtain, or order tickets online. Discounts are available.
This performance is supported in part by the Rider-Pool Foundation, EdgeEvents funder; Wachovia, the Zoellner Arts Center 2004-2005 presenting sponsor, and by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
