Prof. Voloshin named to executive board of Society for Experimental Mechanics

Arkady Voloshin, professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics, has been named a member-at-large of the executive board of the Society for Experimental Mechanics.
SEM is an international professional society of engineers and scientists that seeks to increase the knowledge of physical phenomena; better understand the behavior of materials, structures and systems; and promote analytical and computational approaches to engineering problems.
Voloshin will serve a two-year term on SEM’s executive board.
An active member of SEM since 1976, Voloshin has served the organization as secretary, as vice chair and chair of the Optical Methods Division, and as associate editor of SEM’s journal Experimental Mechanics. He has also organized many sessions at SEM’s annual meetings.
In 1983, Voloshin was a co-recipient of the M. Hetenyi Award, which is given for the best research paper published in Experimental Mechanics. In 2002, he received SEM’s Brewer Award, which is given to “an outstanding practicing experimental stress analyst” in recognition of that person’s in the practical application of experimental mechanics techniques.
Voloshin, a member of Lehigh’s bioengineering program, applies experimental optical methods to problems in microelectronic and optoelectronic packaging and studies the effects of dynamic loading on the human locomotion system. He has authored over 200 technical publications in international journals and conference proceedings.
