Presidential Search Update -- Feb. 8, 2006
On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, I would like to update you on the fine progress made by the Committee.
As you know, in December the Search Committee invited the campus community to participate in three Open Forums for students, faculty, and staff to discuss the attributes and qualities Lehigh should seek in its next President. We thank everyone who participated in these Open Forums. We sincerely appreciate the many valuable insights and opinions you shared with us. Among the comments expressed at each Open Forum was that Lehigh's next President should possess a commitment and ability to increase diversity on our campus. The Committee shares the view expressed concerning the importance of this attribute and it will, along with the other major topics discussed at the Open Forums, help to inform and shape our search. A summary of the major themes discussed at the Open Forums is posted on the Presidential Search Web site. And, we have established an e-mail address (pressearch06@lehigh.edu) that you are invited to use throughout the process to offer suggestions and comments.
As to the progress of our search, we are proceeding along the timeline previously announced by the Board of Trustees; that is, on a schedule consistent with completion of our search by the end of the academic year. We are pleased to report that we are building a rich pool of exceptional candidates with diverse talents and backgrounds. We expect our pool of candidates to continue to grow in size and breadth. We interpret the positive response of persons nominated and contacted as clear evidence of the high regard and recognition Lehigh enjoys as an outstanding nationally ranked university. With the commitment of our Search Committee members and the expertise and resources available to us through Russell Reynolds Associates, our executive search firm, we expect to meet the Board of Trustees' charge to us to identify a select group of highly qualified, accomplished individuals from which the Board will select Lehigh's next President.
As a valued member of the Lehigh community, we invite and encourage you to participate actively in the search process by contacting your colleagues to identify potentially superb prospective candidates. Once you have identified prospective candidates, we ask that you submit their name, institutional affiliation and e-mail address to our designated e-mail search address at lehigh-president@russellreynolds.com.
The Search Committee will continue to keep the Lehigh community informed about the progress of the Presidential Search. Please understand, however, the critical importance of maintaining a high level of confidentiality to ensure the integrity and fairness of the search process and to attract the most talented candidates.
